Lent and Easter Wisdom from Thomas Merton (The Merton Institute of Contemplative Living)

Lent and Easter, Wisdom from Thomas Merton - $9.95

[Paperback]

Compiled by Jonathan Montaldo (Author)

"Lent is our 'Holy Spring'! Even the darkest moments of Lent are filled with joy, and Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten fast, is a day of happiness, a Christian feast. It cannot be otherwise as it forms part of the great Easter cycle. The Paschal mystery is above all the mystery of life, in which the Church, by celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ, enters into the kingdom of Life which he established once for all by his definitive victory over sin and death,." and so begins the Lenten Season with the words of Thomas Merton
This little book, with reflections on the words of the Trappist monk Thomas Merton, and prayers and thoughts complied by Jonathan Montaldo (former director of the Merton Institute and editor of several Merton books) is a wonderful companion to the Lenten season.

In the early 90s I read my first Merton book and I began a love affair with the words of Merton, devouring everything written by, or about him. In 1996 I made my first visit to the Abbey of Gethsemani monastery in Kentucky, the place where Merton entered the monastery in the thirties. I still return to Merton's writings; his struggles, his failures, his passion, his sorrow--they remind me to persevere
in faith in my own life. And each Lent I return to this little book.
