Seven Secrets of the Eucharist by Vinny Flynn

When passenger Fred Berretta recounted the miracle landing of Air Flight #1549 in the Hudson River, he was certain that everyone survived that cold winter afternoon because of the Seven Secrets of the Eucharist. He had just finished reading it before boarding. He reports, “I closed my eyes to reflect [on] the incredible insights [the] book gave me regarding the Eucharist.” But his reflection was critically shortened as the two engines of the Airbus A320 completely cut out only six minutes after takeoff.
One of the truths Berretta read about was the “Hour of Mercy” which Flynn quoted from St. Faustina’s Diary. (Visit our.homewithgod.com/divinemercy/ to download). Jesus appeared to this Polish nun in the 1930s revealing many great messages. He vowed that no petition prayed between 3:00 and 4:00, the hour of Jesus’ death on the cross, would be neglected. At 3:30, as the waters of the Hudson were gaining, Berretta’s prayer was for God’s mercy.
Flynn begins his remarkable book with an invitation taken from St. Faustina’s Diary: “When I come to a human heart in Holy Communion, my hands are full of all kinds of graces which I want to give to the soul, but souls do not even pay attention to me.”
In Flynn’s easy style, he quotes from the writings of other saints as well, like St. Thomas Aquinas. Countless papal encyclicals, documents from the Councils, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Scripture create solid ground to examine these truths. For example, consider this: Each and every time we receive the Holy Eucharist, we come as close to Heaven as we can while still on earth. Present is the Trinity and all the angels and saints since Jesus’ soul and divinity cannot be separated. Wow! Enjoy this book—a true gift of God’s hope, beauty and healing.
